What Is Ritual?

Ritual is a multivitamin company founded by Katerina Shneider in 2016. She launched Ritual after not being able to find a prenatal multivitamin she could trust during her pregnancy. Designed with women in mind, their very first product was the Essential for Women multivitamin, but they’ve since branched out to offer a variety of supplements, from postnatals to protein shakes.

Ritual vitamins claim to be simple, clean, and backed by science. Unlike other supplement brands, rather than following health fads the company strives to offer clean products with only the essentials and “No B.S.”

Ritual is known for their transparency, providing their customers with a list of traceable ingredients. This means you can know exactly where each ingredient came from across the globe — be it Ogden, Utah or Pisticci, Italy.

They operate on a subscription-based model, where the vitamins are automatically sent to you every 30 days. This helps ensure customers have a fresh supply each month, which can be convenient for busy people.

Who Is Ritual Best For

They have a diverse product catalog, catering to a broad target market, we can break it down into several categories:

  • Health-Conscious Consumers: You prioritize your health and well-being and are willing to invest in high-quality supplements.
  • People Looking for Transparency: You value transparency and want to know exactly what’s in your products.
  • Life Stage Specific Needs: You are going through a specific phase such as pregnancy or perhaps you just turned 50, and you’re looking for a specific non-generic product to suit your individual needs
  • Eco-Conscious Consumers: You’re eco-conscious and care about sustainability
  • Busy Individuals: You’re constantly on the go and thrive off a subscription model since it’s one thing less on your to-do list

What Are the Ingredients in Ritual Vitamins?

As mentioned, Ritual uses clean ingredients, with a big focus on transparency. The majority of their products are:

  • Non-GMO
  • Vegan-friendly
  • Free from gluten and major allergens
  • Third-party tested and/or USP verified
  • Made without artificial colorants

Instead of listing the ingredients in every single supplement, we’re going to examine a few of their most popular products dissecting the supplement facts, nutritional benefits and more.

Ritual Supplement #1: Essential For Women Multivitamin 18+

  • Supplement Facts and Amount per Serving: 1000 mcg DFE Folate, 330mg Omega-3 DHA, 8 mcg Vitamin B12, 50 mcg Vitamin D3, 8 mg Iron, 90 mcg Vitamin K2, 0.7 mg Boron, 6.7 mg Vitamin E, 30 mg Magnesium
  • Other Ingredients: Beadlets (cellulose, NON-GMO corn zein), stomach acid-resistant vegan capsule (hypromellose, gellan gum), silica
  • Nutritional Benefits: A combination of Omega-3 DHA and B12 to support brain health, bone health support from Vitamin D, Magnesium and Boron, Vitamin E for antioxidant support and Iron and Folate for healthy red blood cell formation
  • Price: $33 for a 30-day supply

The Bottom Line: At first glance, Essential For Women Multivitamin 18+ seems like a well-rounded supplement. However, it’s missing calcium and vitamin C. You may be able to get a more comprehensive one for the same price.

Ritual Supplement #2: Synbiotic+

  • Supplement Facts and Amount per Serving: 120 mg probiotic blend (Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Bifidobacterium animalis ssp. lactis), 15 mg PreforPro® (LH01 - Myoviridae, LL5 - Siphoviridae, T4D - Myoviridae, LL12 - Myoviridae), 300 mg Tributyrin (as CoreBiome®)
  • Other Ingredients: Stomach acid-resistant outer vegan capsule (hypromellose, gellan gum), medium chain triglycerides (from coconut) inner vegan capsule (hypromellose), silica, cellulose
  • Nutritional Benefits: A combination of probiotics, prebiotics and postbiotics for supporting digestion and bloat, gut barrier health and immune support
  • Price: $54 for 30-day supply

The Bottom Line: Designed to support gut health, the 3-in-1 vegan formula includes prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics to help support your gut. It contains 11 Billion CFUs but only has two strains. While this is a decent gut health supplement, there are other comprehensive probiotic supplements out there with more CFUs and strains.

Ritual Supplement #3: Prenatal Multivitamin Capsules

  • Supplement Facts and Amount per Serving: 50 mcg Vitamin D3, 7mg Vitamin E, 1000 mcg DFE folate, 150 mcg biotin, 55mg choline, 18 mg iron, 150 mcg iodine, 32 mg magnesium, 350 mg Omega-3 (DHA), 90 mcg Vitamin K2
  • Other Ingredients: Stomach acid-resistant outer vegan capsule (hypromellose, gellan gum), inner vegan capsule (hypromellose), silica, cellulose, l-leucine
  • Nutritional Benefits: Folate and choline support the baby’s neural tube and brain development, blood-building iron, folate and B12 and vitamins and minerals help maintain bone health
  • Price: $39 for a 30-day supply

The Bottom Line: While it’s a decent prenatal supplement, this multivitamin is missing some micronutrients and doesn’t contain vitamin C and calcium. In addition, it contains only 55 mg of Choline, which is only 10% of the recommended daily intake for pregnant women. When taken as a sole pregnancy supplement, this may not be enough, given choline’s crucial role in fetal brain development.

Are Ritual Vitamins Worth It?

Overall, Ritual can be a great option for those looking for a convenient daily supplement, but is it worth it? Although they don’t skimp on transparency or the quality of its ingredients, there is room for improvement.

  • Not as comprehensive as they could be: As we reviewed multiple of their supplements, we noticed one trend: They’re not as comprehensive as they could be. For example, the multivitamins were missing the powerhouse nutrient Vitamin C and the prenatal vitamin was lacking the recommended dose for Choline.
  • Supplements can get pricey: Considering you may need to purchase multiple supplements to meet your specific nutrient needs, the prices can add up quickly. With a more comprehensive all-in-one supplement, you could get more bang for your buck. Which brings us to the next point:
  • Locked into a subscription: You are locked into a subscription. This can create steep monthly bills, especially when you’re exploring a few different supplement options at once.
  • Customers reviews hot and cold: With an overall rating of 1.6 on Trustpilot and 2.9 on Amazon, there is certainly room for improvement. Common complaints include poor customer service, fishy taste/burps from the prenatal, feeling sick, getting migraines and issues with the automated subscription model.

“Headaches so bad I was constantly dizzy.” – Lauren
“At first I didn’t think it had anything to do with the vitamins, so I took them again the next day and again I felt a migraine type of headache. It was so painful that I had to take the day off. So I decided to stop taking it for a couple days then the headache stopped.” – Giselle F

Alternative to Ritual?

Ritual is a solid company, and while they offer dozens of different supplements for various health needs, what if there was a way to get several supplements in one, without the hassle of buying multiple products? That’s where Trilogy by Vibrant Health comes in.

  • Carefully sourced and third-party tested: When Vibrant Health makes a supplement, they ensure that everything that goes into it is of the highest quality. Not only do they source ingredients the best they can, but they also get it third-party tested in order to ensure that it is really quality.
