Ka'Chava VS Huel: Which One Is Superior?

Superfood shakes can be a convenient way to support daily nutrition, but not all formulas are created equally. Adding one to your routine can help support your overall wellness—if you choose the right formula. But with so many options available, how do you decide what’s right for you?

Two popular choices are Ka'Chava, a premium superfood blend, and Huel, an affordable, science-backed nutritional shake.

At Vibrant Health, we’re committed to supporting your health journey through education. Below, we’ll explore both of these products, discussing their differences, pros, and cons, so that you can uncover which is right for your lifestyle and goals—or whether an alternative may be your best option.

What Is Ka’Chava?

Ka’Chava is a US-based superfood shake brand founded on the philosophy of combining ancient superfoods with modern nutrition science. Its flagship “Superblend” powder supports various aspects of health, such as energy levels, lean muscle building, digestive well-being, and mental focus. Ka'Chava is free from additives, dairy, soy, and sugar substitutes and has an impressive ingredients list featuring strong micronutrients from whole-food sources.

In terms of its nutritional value, Ka’Chava boasts only 240 calories per serving, which includes 25g plant-based protein, along with 70+ superfoods like adaptogens, probiotics, and digestive enzymes.

It’s available in several flavors, including Coffee, Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Coconut Acai, Chai, and Matcha. For a one-time purchase, you can expect to pay about $80 per bag ($5.33/serving).

Ka'Chava Ingredients

Ka’Chava Pros and Cons

While Ka’Chava serves as a premium option that delivers great nutritional benefits from quality, whole-food ingredients, it’s relatively pricey and could offer more transparency.

Pros:

  • Rich superfood variety with organic whole-food ingredients

  • Includes probiotics and prebiotics to support digestive balance

  • Good source of protein (25 complete grams per serving)

  • Macronutrient balance for holistic health and wellness

Cons:

  • Premium price point (~$5/serving)

  • Low calorie count for true meal replacement

  • Some empty calories via 6 grams of added sugar

  • Proprietary blends limit exact dosage transparency

On this last point, ingredients are not a 100% win for Ka’Chava when you consider transparency. That’s because the shake contains Natural Flavors and Gums, which are vague and can cause an upset stomach. There’s also no exact amount of Probiotics—colony-forming units (CFUs)—listed in each shake.

What Is Huel?

Huel (Human + Fuel) is a UK-based brand launched in 2015 by a registered nutritionist with a mission to provide nutritionally complete, affordable plant-based nutrition at scale. Its various powders, pre-made drinks, and bars provide a balance of 25+ essential vitamins and minerals, proteins, essential fats, fiber, and phytonutrients—at affordable rates and to a global audience.

Of Huel’s many products, the closest comparison to Ka’Chava is its flagship powder, “The Original Complete Meal.” It’s 400 calories per serving, including 30g of plant-based protein and 26–27 vitamins and minerals. Like Ka’Chava, it has no added sugar, but it does contain sucralose.

Huel comes in several flavors, including Chocolate, Vanilla, Banana, Berry, Coffee Caramel, Mint Chocolate, and Salted Caramel. There are also Original and Unflavored & Unsweetened options.

Price-wise, Huel is significantly more affordable than Ka’Chava. Bags cost $47 for a one-time purchase, which breaks down to about $2.76 per meal. Plus, subscribers can save up to 20%.

Huel Ingredients

Like Ka'Chava, Huel offers many different flavors, but for this review, we're going to cover the ingredients in the Chocolate flavor.

Huel Pros and Cons

Overall, Huel offers an affordable, science-backed meal replacement with excellent nutritional value and convenience. It’s a great choice for athletes and anyone who lives a highly active lifestyle.

Pros

  • Great macronutrient profile

  • Inexpensive with strong value

  • Wide selection of products

  • High protein and caloric density

  • Convenient for busy professionals

Cons

  • Suboptimal labeling

    • No grouping, so benefits aren’t clear

    • No amounts of ingredients listed

  • Artificial sweeteners (sucralose)

  • Low superfood density (one probiotic strain)

  • Potentially gritty or chalky texture

As with Ka’Chava, there are some transparency concerns with this otherwise nutritionally strong supplement. However, in general, Huel delivers great value at a price point consumers can’t overlook.

Ka’Chava vs Huel: Head-to-Head Comparison

With the basics covered, let’s compare each superfood shake across the categories that matter most for supplements: ingredients, macro/micronutrients, pricing, taste, transparency, and lifestyle fit.

Ingredients and Superfood Quality

Ka’Chava enjoys a slight edge over Huel in terms of the variety and quality of its superfood ingredients.

As a premium supplement, Ka’Chava contains over 70 organic superfoods. Its ingredients include organic pure whole grain oat, organic acacia gum, chia seeds, and flax seeds—high in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids, which play a role in supporting overall wellness. Huel’s blend is much simpler, featuring science-backed whole foods like gluten-free oats, pea protein, and ground flaxseed.

Adaptogens are commonly used to support the body’s response to stress. Ka’Chava boasts adaptogens like maca root, shiitake mushroom mycelia, maitake mushroom mycelia, reishi mushroom mycelia, cordyceps mushroom mycelia, and ginger root. Huel makes products with botanical and adaptogen blends, but its base meal replacement lacks them.

Ka'Chava also offers a great blend of different antioxidant ingredients, like organic coconut flower nectar, acai berry, organic maqui berry, camu-camu berry, and various organic berries. It also has a blend of digestive enzymes, including amylase, protease, cellulase, lactase, and lipase, to support the body’s natural digestive processes.

Meanwhile, Huel offers antioxidants like lutein, lycopene, and zeaxanthin, along with probiotics such as Bacillus coagulans MTCC 5856.

Protein and Macronutrients

With respect to macros, Huel may hold a slight edge over Ka’Chava, depending on what your goals are. Huel features more calories and protein, while Ka’Chava is less dense. This makes Huel more apt for bodybuilders and people looking to put on lean muscle, while Ka’Chava is ideal for weight loss.

As briefly noted above, Ka'Chava comes in at 240 calories total. It has ~6g of fat, 20–25g of carbs, and 25g of protein. From an energy standpoint, these macros are decent. However, Huel has 400 calories, which is closer to what most people consider a full meal. It also delivers 30g of protein, 12g of fat, and 49g of carbs—but 10g of those carbs are dietary fiber.

In terms of protein quality, both supplements combine multiple plant-based sources of protein to make a complete amino acid profile that supports an active lifestyle.

Vitamins and Minerals

Both Ka’Chava and Huel cover all the essential micronutrients most people look for in a meal replacement supplement. Huel offers a slightly higher count, but Ka’Chava’s blend is still solid.

Ka'Chava has a good balance of vitamins and minerals that come from organic vegetables such as beet, carrot, spinach, broccoli, tomato, kale, cabbage, parsley leaf, Brussels sprouts, green pepper, cucumber, celery, garlic, green onion, cauliflower, and asparagus. However, Huel’s ingredients and micronutrient blend deliver a greater total count of vitamins and minerals (27) than Ka’Chava—even though there are fewer whole and total ingredients.

Price and Value

Both supplements offer strong value, but Huel is certainly more affordable. Ka’Chava comes in at over $5 per serving (potentially ~$4 with subscription discounts). Huel is $2.71 per serving at its full, one-time buy price and can be purchased for $2.21 per serving with subscription savings.

In terms of convenience, Huel’s containers hold 17 servings, and Ka’Chava’s hold 15. A package of Huel may only last slightly longer, but that still makes a difference for monthly budgeting.

Taste and Texture

While taste and mouthfeel are largely subjective factors, Ka’Chava may hold a slight advantage here. Ka’Chava is regularly praised for its smooth texture and natural sweet flavors.

Meanwhile, some tasters report a gritty texture for Huel, and its flavors are more neutral or “earthy.”

Label Transparency

Neither Ka’Chava nor Huel offers full, per-ingredient dosage transparency across all of their blends. They’re not terribly vague or misleading, but each has its relative weaknesses.

Ka’Chava makes heavy use of proprietary blends across its products. This means a sub-blend’s exact ingredients or components aren’t always clear. So, you can’t be 100% certain about what you’re consuming. Huel is better in this regard, with fairly clear labeling, but it doesn’t break down its ingredients’ impacts in an easily accessible format.

Dietary & Lifestyle Fit

All Ka’Chava products are organic, gluten-free, soy-free, and dairy-free. Some of Huel’s products contain gluten and/or soy, and some use artificial sweeteners.

However, Huel’s caloric density and higher protein content may make it more ideal for more intense athletic training.

Ka’Chava vs Huel: Which One Should You Choose?

Ultimately, both Ka’Chava and Huel are decent supplement options that can support a healthy lifestyle when paired with other whole foods and regular exercise. The right choice for you comes down to your nutritional goals, preferences, and budget:

Choose Ka’Chava if:

  • You prioritize organic, whole-food ingredients

  • You want a strong variety of quality superfoods

  • You’re comfortable paying a premium

Choose Huel if:

  • You need more protein or calories per serving

  • You prefer a wider variety of supplement options

  • You prioritize lower price and better value per serving

Alternatively, you can opt for a quality superfood supplement from a trusted provider that goes above and beyond what Ka’Chava and Huel can do.
