4 Simple Actions to Take this Earth Day to Help Restore the Earth

Earth Day is coming up April 22nd ‚ an annual holiday focused on education and activation around the global environmental movement. And this year‚s theme is ‚Restore Our Earth,‚ largely centered around climate change.

Curious about how you can do your part in making our Earth a better place? While it may seem like an impossible mission to tackle, it‚s important to remember every effort ‚ big and small ‚ counts. This week on the Vibrant Health blog, we‚re sharing four simple action steps you can take this Earth Day to help restore the Earth!

  1. Try Doing a ‚Meatless Monday‚
  2. Reduce Plastic Waste in Your Home
  3. Advocate in Your Community
  4. Support Sustainable Fashion

Try Doing a ‚Meatless Monday‚

According to the Food and Agricultural Organization of United Nations (FAO), livestock contributes to an estimated 14.5% of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions induced by humans ‚ playing a major role in impacting climate change. Consider doing your part by cutting back on meat and celebrating "Meatless Monday"‚ a day dedicated to eating plant-based foods.

Browse our recipes for plant-based smoothies, smoothie bowls and snacks like these No Bake Granola Bars made with simple ingredients like almond butter, oats, chia seeds and our plant-based Green Vibrancesuperfood powder. Take your efforts up a notch by shopping local when you can ‚ supporting local farmers while reducing food travel mileage.

Reduce Plastic Waste in Your Home

One of the most immediate ways you can contribute to less waste is by reducing the amount of plastic you use in your home. Curious to know how much plastic you‚re currently using? Use this plastic calculator to start tracking!

From there, take small steps to cut back on single-use plastic items (think plastic bags and cups) by replacing them with reusable items like Stasher bags and eco-friendly water bottles. Here are some additional eco-friendly swaps you can make to be kinder to the Earth.

Advocate in Your Community

Passionate about making the Earth a cleaner place? Use your voice to advocate in your community! Consider starting an initiative at your college, getting involved in creating a community or backyard garden, or rallying your friends and family for an outdoor socially-distant neighborhood cleanup.

Want to make a difference from the comfort of your home? Consider planting a tree with The Canopy Project‚ every dollar donated going toward planting one tree.

Support Sustainable Fashion

We‚ve all heard the saying, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, but what about when it comes to your clothing? While it may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Earth Day, your fashion choices play a big part in reducing your carbon footprint. In fact, a report by Mckinsey & Company found that the fashion industry alone accounts for roughly 4% of global GHG emissions!

Start small by supporting sustainable brands, donating clothes you‚ve outgrown, and shopping at thrift stores for gently used items. Companies like thredUP provide a unique online shopping experience to buy consignment ‚ great for your budget and the planet. Win, win!
